April 17 - Day 1 - Status Report
17 April 2005
Location: In transit from Mobile, AL to Atwater Valley Block 13
Science Update: Science party finished unpacking equipment on Saturday after most were able to board the Uncle John on Friday afternoon. Cabins, shift coverage, and core handling teams have been established. Now setting up in labs and calibrating equipment. A workroom and data management center has been set up in the auxiliary mess hall. Internet access with wireless router is being installed.
Plans: Prepare to use Remotely Operated Vehicle to take shallow (1 ft) cores and bottom water samples at the first logging-while-drilling (LWD) site. Logging Scientist will coordinate with engineers to plan LWD hole. Rehearse core handling teams prior to first coring hole.
