Project Dates: 10/1/2008 - 9/30/2011
Area of Research: Combusion
Federal Project Manager: Mark Freeman
Project Objective: The objectives of this project are 1) to obtain fundamental understanding of the response of lean premixed multi-nozzle combustors operating on high hydrogen, coal derived fuels to both transverse and longitudinal fluctuations of the air flow rate and 2) to use this understanding to formulate and validate longitudinal and transverse flame response models that can be used to predict instability in multi-nozzle annular and can combustors. Such models are an essential tool for preventing or minimizing the incidence of detrimental combustion instabilities in future gas turbines.
