Current Regulations Governing Coal Combustion By-Products - Hawaii
Hawaii
Under Hawaii regulations, fly ash, bottom ash, slag, and flue gas emission control waste generated primarily from the combustion of coal or other fossil fuels are exempt from regulation as hazardous waste. Reuse of CCBs is not specifically authorized under Hawaii law. A pilot study is underway to evaluate the feasibility of mixing coal ash with asphalt for road construction. Other applications may be approved by the Hawaii Office of Solid Waste Management on a case-by-case basis after TCLP and metals testing.
