Coal-Fired Power Plants (CFPPs)
Why do we need CFPPs?

With increased need for energy in the nation, electricity producers answer the call with new production. In 2004 the electric power industry grew 2.3 percent and 1.7 percent the year before. It seems unlikely the trend will change and the need for new electric production facilities is inevitable. In 2004, 553 megawatts of new coal-fired electric production was brought online and 543 megawatts of coal-fired electric production was retired – an increase of 1.8 percent. Coal fired electric power generation accounts for almost half of all power produced in this country. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports there are 13 gigawatts of new coal-fired generators already planned. Technological advances in coal-fired energy production are providing a path forward to meeting the increasing electrical demands of the nation.
