Clean Coal Power Initiative (CCPI)
Planning Workshop

An open planning workshop for the Clean Coal Power Initiative (CCPI) was held on September 28, 2001 at Hyatt Airport Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The workshop was sponsored by the Office of Fossil Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. Approximately 150 attendees gathered to offer their viewpoints on the CCPI and its subsequent implementation and management. The attendees represented a good organizational cross-cutting with approximately 70% industry representation (utilities, suppliers, vendors, engineering & consulting), 15% federal, state & local government, 8% academia and the remainder from various stakeholder organizations such as EPRI, CURC and NMA. The morning session of the meeting featured speeches by General Richard Lawson (Former President NMA), Robert Kripowicz (Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy) and Rita Bajura (Director of NETL) that highlighted the importance of the CCPI to coal-based electric power generation and the DOE coal RD&D program. The afternoon session featured "open discussion" break-out groups that provided a forum for comments on critical CCPI issues related to "Technology", "Markets & Business", "Regulatory", and "Management".
