Diane Hernon Chavis

Diane Hernon Chavis, J.D., is the Director of the YWCA of Greater Pittsburgh Center for Race Relations and Anti-Racism Training.  Ms. Chavis graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  Prior to joining the YWCA, Ms. Chavis managed an active litigation practice concentrating on employment disputes and complex commercial cases.

Ms. Chavis is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs where she teaches a course on Gender, Race and Public Policy.  She has participated in several conferences and workshops aimed at dismantling oppression, including the National Multicultural Institute, the Pittsburgh Summits on Racism, the National Leadership Summit on Race Relations and America’s Public Education System, the Regional Coalition of Community Builders, the Women’s Economic Summits, the Institute for Public Leadership, and The National Conference on Peace Making and Conflict Resolution.
