Jeff retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in August 2001, after more than 37 years with that Department of Interior bureau. During his final 2 years he was a member of the USGS’s Executive Leadership Team and chief ‘people advisor’ to the Director of USGS. Several years before retiring, Jeff designed and implemented the USGS’s first leadership development program, oversaw the redesign of their supervisory and management programs and implementation of an agency-wide mentoring program, and served as in internal consultant helping dozens of management, scientific, and cross-functional teams improve their effectiveness. He has been an instructor for both the Departments of Interior and Energy Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Programs and DOI’s Team Leadership Program. Jeff is the recipient of numerous awards, including the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Superior Service and Meritorious Service awards and was the first recipient of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Excellence in Leadership award.
