Jeff Armbruster provides customized training and consulting services to a wide range of clients in government, research institutes, academia, not-for-profit and private sector organizations. His work focuses on helping clients improve their leadership, emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationships and teamwork effectiveness. He designs and delivers specialized leadership development programs for executives and aspiring leaders and provides training on the power of high-quality relationships to achieving productivity in the work place. Jeff assists a wide range of senior management, cross-functional and scientific research teams in achieving improved results through high-performance teamwork, as well as guiding complex strategic planning processes.  

Jeff retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in August 2001, after more than 37 years with that Department of Interior bureau. During his government career he spent about 15 years in hydrologic research (he holds BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering) and about 20 years managing scientific research programs. During his final 2 years he was a member of the USGS’s Executive Leadership Team and chief ‘people advisor’ to the Director of USGS. Several years before retiring, Jeff designed and implemented the USGS’s first leadership development program, oversaw the redesign of their supervisory and management programs and implementation of an agency-wide mentoring program, and served as in internal consultant helping dozens of management, scientific, and cross-functional teams improve their effectiveness. He has been an instructor for both the Departments of Interior and Energy Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Programs and DOI’s Team Leadership Program. Jeff is the recipient of numerous awards, including the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Superior Service and Meritorious Service awards and was the first recipient of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Excellence in Leadership award.
