Introduction
The Workshop brought together sixty-two NETL/FE and OPT/EERE stakeholders from government, industry and academia in a joint effort to accelerate the technology for producing large volumes of low-cost hydrogen from fossil fuels and focus the relevant NETL/FE resources on the requirements of the DOE Hydrogen Program in long-range research and development and near-term demonstration project strategy.
There were three, one-half day sessions consisting of a Plenary Session and two Facilitated Breakout Sessions in the Workshop. At the start of the Plenary Session, Alice Q. Murphy extended a welcome to all participants on behalf of the NETL management. This was followed by five speakers from government and industry who gave their perspectives on the Hydrogen Program and the potential for hydrogen utilization in power generation and as a transportation fuel.
Facilitated Breakout Session I followed these speakers. All attendees were assigned to one of three separate groups to discuss either Hydrogen Utilization, Process Technology or Implementation Strategy. Results of these groups' discussions were reported at the start of Facilitated Breakout Session II. The attendees were then reassigned to one of three new groups to discuss possible Integrated System Demonstrations. Groups in Session II were distinguished by their separate focus on solid fuel feedstock material - coal, solid waste materials or composite fuels. Results of the groups were reported to all attendees at the conclusion of Session II.
The following files contain talks and overheads used by all the presenters at the Workshop and a summary of the discussions and conclusions/recommendations from each of the breakout groups.
