| DOE to Host Sixth Annual Conference on Carbon Capture and Sequestration Critical Component of President's Advanced Energy Initiative |

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that Acting Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Thomas Shope and the Natural Resources Defense Council's Climate Center Director David Hawkins will provide keynote remarks for the Sixth Annual Conference on Carbon Capture & Sequestration to be held May 7-10, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The conference, to be held at the Sheraton Station Square, addresses the criticality of carbon sequestration as a key component of the President's Advanced Energy Initiative and Global Climate Change Initiative. Over 400 carbon sequestration experts from around the world are expected to attend discussions regarding significant advances in the development and deployment of this technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The DOE-National Energy Technology Laboratory annual conference focuses on carbon capture, separation and sequestration technologies deployable in the U.S. and North America; discusses capacity building needs and ways to meet those needs in emerging economies; provides a forum for the exchange of experience with the international scientific and engineering communities; and facilitates the dialogue between technology developers/purveyors, carbon emitting industries and the public on the development and deployment of viable technologies and establishing the necessary institutional and intergovernmental frameworks to move the technology forward. The Honorable Luke Ravenstahl, Mayor of Pittsburgh, and Carl Bauer, Director, NETL, will give the opening remarks. |
