WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will host the first Carbon Sequestration Leadership Task Force on Capacity Building in Emerging Economies Workshop beginning May 7, in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The workshop, to be held at the Sheraton Station Square, is devoted to possible approaches that can be undertaken to build carbon capture and storage capacity in developing nations with high CO2 emissions. This sequestration effort will focus on the governmental and industrial sectors and aims to identify potential areas of multilateral collaborations on carbon separation, capture, transport and storage technologies.
The member countries attending the workshop include Brazil, China, Columbia, India, Mexico and South Africa. Attendees can participate in sessions of the ongoing Sixth Annual Conference on Carbon Capture and Sequestration at the same venue. A mix of industry, government and academic speakers will address carbon management needs, types of storage media, risk management, capture and monitoring technologies, transportation and economic issues, stakeholder involvement, legal, regulator and policy issues and tour the National Energy Technology Laboratory.
The Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) is an international climate change initiative that is focused on development of improved cost-effective technologies for the separation and capture of carbon dioxide for its transport and long-term safe storage. The purpose of the CSLF is to make these technologies broadly available internationally; and to identify and address wider issues relating to carbon capture and storage. Membership is open to national governmental entities that are significant producers or users of fossil fuel and that have a commitment to invest resources in research, development and demonstration activities in carbon dioxide capture and storage technologies. |
