Acumentrics Corporpation
of Westwood, Mass., and Japan’s
Sumitomo Corporation have formed a new company, Acumentrics Japan
Co., to market and sell Acumentrics’ tubular solid oxide fuel cell
power systems in Japan.
Acumetrics is a member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solid
State Energy Conversion Alliance (SECA), a partnership between government,
industry, universities, and other research organizations to advance solid
oxide fuel cells. The National Energy Technology Laboratory co-manages
the SECA program along with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
The new joint venture results from the efficiency and strength of Acumentrics’
tubular solid oxide fuel cell technology — a technology being advanced
under the SECA program — and responds to growing commercial interest
for SECA-supported fuel cells.
Because SECA’s goal is to accelerate the commercialization of solid
oxide fuel cells, the program selects research teams that have the ability
to form commercial distribution networks early in fuel cell development.
