2010 WV Science Bowl
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (DOE/NETL) invites you to participate in one of the premier scientific events for high school students, the West Virginia High School Science Bowl 2010 on February 6, 2010. This will be NETL’s 19th year sponsoring the high school competition.
There is a change this year in the registration process from past years, all teams who are registering to complete, must do so through the National Science Bowl website.
For those who are not familiar with the West Virginia Science Bowl here are some highlights:
- The competition is open to high school students (school, scouts, home school) from West Virginia. Complete eligibility requirements are located at the National Science Bowl website.
- Sixteen teams will be invited to compete for the State Championship at the West Virginia Science Bowl in Morgantown WV.
- Teams are invited by placing 1st or 2nd in a competition in their RESA (Regional Education Service Area) as determined by the RESA
- Teams are quizzed on their scientific knowledge in areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth science, general science, and mathematics.
- The winning team will receive an expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the DOE National Science Bowl. (April 29 - May 4, 2010)
- In 2009, Woodrow Wilson High School of Beckley WV qualified for the double elimination rounds in the National Competition.
- In 2006, 2007, and 2008, West Virginia teams won first place in the Fuel Cell Car competition.
All teams invited to the State Finals will receive breakfast, lunch and a science bowl shirt on Saturday, February 6th.

Teams will register on-line and receive acceptance by e-mail and snail mail following your RESA competition. Your contact information will be forwarded to your RESA. |
