On April 22, the 36th annual Earth Day was celebrated by millions of Americans in thousands of local communities. Throughout April, NETL held its annual Earth Day Poster Contest with a display of artwork by area schoolchildren.

Students ages 5–10 submitted entries, and NETL chose up to three winners from each grade level based on the number of entries received and three judging categories—originality, imagination, and innovative ideas. Participating schools included South Park Middle, Saint Simon and Jude, and Ave Maria in Pittsburgh, PA, Valley Elementary in Arthurdale, WV, and Suncrest Primary in Morgantown, WV. To close the event, NETL will visit each school to present certificates to all participants and NETL Earth Day medals to the winners.
