IGCC Operations for Advanced Operators

This course is designed as a familiarization course to increase understanding of IGCC plant operations and control, including gasification, CO2 capture, and combined cycle operation, for personnel assigned as IGCC control room operators.  During the training, trainees will startup and shutdown the simulated unit in an integrated manner and will be exposed to malfunctions during the exercises. The importance of teamwork and communications will be stressed during the training. Course objectives are as follows:

  • Introduce trainees to plant systems and major components and how they dynamically interact
  • Familiarize trainees with the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and plant control and how safe and efficient operation of the unit can be affected by plant problems.
  • Provide the trainees with hands-on operating experience in plan operations using the HMI.
  • Increase trainee understanding of plant equipment and control processes and integrated operations of the plant.

Trainees will spend 25% of the time in the classroom and 75% of the time interacting with the IGCC simulator.

Recommended participants:  Operations personnel from electric utilities, engineering & construction firms, and equipment vendors with an interest in IGCC operations including air separation, gasification, syngas cleanup, carbon capture and compression, and combined cycle.
