NETL's AVESTAR™ Team Delivers IGCC Simulator Training to Pierpont Power Plant Technology Students
NETL's AVESTAR team provided IGCC dynamic simulator-based training to ten students participating in Pierpont Community & Technical College's (PCTC)Power Plant Technology Program. The training sessions started with an overview of the high-fidelity, real-time IGCC dynamic simulator and operator training system deployed at the NETL AVESTAR Center location in Morgantown, WV. Hands-on demonstration and training then focused on startup of the combined cycle portion of the IGCC power plant, including starting the gas and steam turbines, synchronizing them to the grid, raising power load, and monitoring drum levels in the heat recovery steam generator. Operated in partnership with FirstEnergy Corporation, PCTC's one-year workforce development program is aimed at training skilled power plant control room and field operators; successful students receive a Certificate Degree in Power Plant Technology.
