Five scientists at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), Mark Freeman, Evan Granite, William O’Dowd, Henry Pennline, and Richard Hargis, will receive the prestigious R&D 100 Award, emblematic of the top 100 most technologically significant new products to enter the marketplace, for their development of a process that simultaneously removes mercury from flue gas while generating clean energy from domestically produced coal.

The Plains CO2 Reduction (PCOR) Partnership, one of seven members of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships program, has used its Decision Support System (DSS) to assist in preparing a carbon management plan for Excelsior Energy’s Mesaba Energy Project.

The Department of Energy has announced that Ramgen Power Systems LLC, Bellevue, Washington, has been awarded $20 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to scale up a device that uses supersonic shockwaves to compress carbon dioxide for capture and storage.
